Applications
Below we present some of the possible usages some of which we already are actively pursuing. There are many other possibilities and if you have needs that you think we might meet, please contact us so we can discuss these further.
Power line inspections and surveying
Mapping of power lines and power corridors. Positioning of infrastructure like poles and masts. Monitoring of vegetation growth.
To forecast the danger of flooding or to estimate the amount of snow water equivalent in a catchment for hydropower production we propose to use radar sounders with a relatively small footprint in the C to X band region. One may also detect ice layers and layers of different snow properties.
High resolution hyper spectral measurements will enable measurements of chlorophyll A and primary production in the ocean. This instrument can also be used for monitoring algae concentrations and monitoring of algae blooms in costal areas.
A miniaturized high resolution laser scanner enable us to construct highly accurate digital elevation models.
2D or 3D digital ortho photos can be constructed from the onboard digital camera and if desired overlayed the laser scanner DEM.
Atmospheric and meteorological measurements
Not pleased with the forecast? The UAS is instrumented with high quality meteorological sensors and could improve the data input significantly by providing important data from the Norwegian ocean where there are no measurements today. This would improve the forecast for Northern Norway in particular
Vegetation types can be determined with data from hyper spectral imagers. The imager can be used to monitor stress on vegetation caused by grazing and how this impacts the vegetation re growth.
Use of UAS will give access to real time information in connection with oil spills, flooding, algae blooms and SAR operation, that will improve the management of such incidents and therefore potentially limit damages and save lives.
Satellite sensor testing and product validation
A UAS with its long range and endurance is particularly suited to test retrieval principles for future satellites. It has an operating cost much lower than regular airplanes and better endurance as well. It can also be programmed to very accurately reproduce earlier flight patterns
The UAS will be an important part of the available research infrastructure in Norway and can be used by a number of norwegian research entities. Already we have several joint projects where the UAS plays an important part
