About CryoWing
The idea of Norut starting UAS based research was born on the first Norwegian IPY planning meeting in Tromsø November 2003. The Norwegian Research council challenged the working groups to come up with new grand ideas applying new technologies that would leave a legacy of the IPY and the way we do polar science. One of the Norut scientists has earlier been involved in campaigns using miniUAVs to collect data in connection with atmospheric research in Barrow, Alaska.
At Norut we realized that such a platform had a far greater potential than measuring atmospheric parameters, a range of research and commercial applications became obvious. Northern Norway with its vast coastline and enormous natural resources would be the perfect place to start an operational UAS business. Norut is an R&D company located in Tromsø focusing on remote sensing, geophysics, ICT, signal processing and wireless communication, this combination of backgrounds made us well suited to take on this endeavour.
Our goals are to contribute to starting up an UAS based industry in Northern Norway that would be leading in offering inexpensive UAS based services in harsh environments. We focus on civilian applications for resource mapping and surveillance, research and general aerial mapping.
